8/10
Following on from the critical praise of their fifth full-length 'V' back in 2015, surf-punks Wavves have returned with another batch of high-energy noise-pop anthems as we ready ourselves for another few good months of weather. And while the band seemed to have moved away from their formative sound on their previous record, 'You're Welcome' sees the band readopt those initial inspirations to deliver something that is both fun and instantly identifiable.
Essentially, 'You're Welcome' is the quintessential beach rockers album. A strong mix of minute-long explosions of sound and slacker anthems, that help bring a sense of musical depth to a record that isn't trying to think too hard. This is effectively Wavves just being Wavves and aiming to deliver an album that will both appease their current fanbase, but also remain accessible enough for newer fans to get their teeth into.
In all, 'You're Welcome' is easily one of their most ear-pleasing records to date. Much like its predecessor 'V', this new album shows us a band that is always looking to experiment with their given formula yet still manages to keep their personality intact.
