White Lung - 'Premonition'

8/10

Throughout the last decade, Canadian outfit White Lung had been seen as one of the more exciting names on the international punk scene. After breaking through with their impactful debut LP 'It's The Evil' in 2010, the group maintained a strong and positive direction throughout the releases since, even though not all the original members stayed in their places over the years. But after a few years of struggling more than most, they have decided to call it a day with their fifth and final studio album 'Premonition', a record that sees them go out with a bang.

While their work over the last dozen years has always been progressive and explosive, 'Premonition' feels like a complete cleanse of the band's psyche as they look to throw everything they have into this final run. Barely a moment passes where the guitars and drums aren't combining into a raucous medley of raw and unbridled power, making for an extremely fun and engaging listen. Although their efforts so far have still been frenzied within their approach, there is something about the finality of this new material that really packs a punch and creates a brilliantly enticing offering.

While it will certainly feel much emptier without their presence on the scene, White Lung's legacy has always been a vital one and this new collection perfectly illustrates what they are capable of. Gnarled and euphoric from start to finish, 'Premonition' is the curtain call they certainly deserve.
