Wild Nothing - 'Life Of Pause'

8/10

Following on from his much-lauded sophomore album 'Nocturne' back in 2012, songwriter Jake Tatum aka Wild Nothing returns with his third studio effort 'Life Of Pause', an album with big boots to fill. For the first time since emerging back in 2010, this is the longest time the Brooklyn native has gone without releasing new music, so expectations on this new record are higher than ever and thankfully we are glad we waited.

While Wild Nothing has always had this diverse and experimental edge to it, this new release sees Tatum try and create a consistent atmosphere throughout the entire album and thus deliver one of the most mood-lifting records we have heard all year. With a rich and eclectic production, 'Life Of Pause' is the kind of album you can imagine being performed at a main stage festival set, using a ten-piece band. It's huge in its sound and yet still finds the avenue to be personal at the same time.

A glorious return for this ever-evolving musician. It has all the hallmarks of a career best for this staple songwriter, something that we hope he will continue to improve on in the years to come.
