Following on from the release of his highly-praised debut single 'Sticking Around' earlier this year, London-based singer and songwriter Paola House has now returned with his vibrant follow-up cut 'Searching For You'.
Bringing back his warm and atmospheric direction, 'Searching For You' makes for an incredibly enticing new offering. With his rich and dense production layered around his beautifully smooth vocal performance, this new release feels like the start of a very special venture for the emerging artist.
So with the new single out now, we sat him down to find out more about his background and what has inspired him most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
For me, I think the bass guitar was the first instrument I bought and was obsessed with. I always wanted a drum kit as a child and played guitar since the age of 12, so the bass was the perfect middle ground.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I’ve always jumped across genres but as a very young child, I had a healthy diet of melodic pop and singer songwriters like Elton John and Roy Orbison. Once I moved into my early teens, metal was hugely popular in my area so was introduced to bands like Black Sabbath and Sepultura and at almost the same time got into dance music from acts like Underworld and Chemical Brothers. Then came the post punk revival happened which led me to bands like Interpol, The Strokes and Bloc Party. So yeah, I got around a bit.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Billy Joel - River Of Dreams (Box Set).
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Weird Fishes - Radiohead. Such a beautiful piece of art.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I try and make sure I have the basic layout of melody and structure written in my mind before I start to work it out the instrumentation and production. I’ve spent countless hours playing riffs and listening to loops that end up going nowhere, so making sure I have something set in my mind, helps me finish the song.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
Right now, I’ve really love the new GRMLN record that’s come out. Also, really loving Eliza Shaddad who I’ve just discovered. I’m originally from Australia so must give shout outs too Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Hope D who are incredible.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Talking Heads - Any chance to see them, I would take.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Sounds naff, but being able to play music is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s the perfect escapism for those who can do it, which has been much needed of late.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Dealing with the ever present self doubt.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Don’t make music to please others. It has to please you first.
