What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
Piano. I remember being very drawn to it when I was 6 years old. Unfortunately, being very shy at that age, I ran away from it but eventually fell back into it. Piano always made sense to me compared to other instruments like guitar or drums.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
I was almost solely listening to pop, some r'n'b but also country. I remember every Sunday morning, sitting in front of the record player with my dad, listening to country music while we would wait for my mom and brother to wake up. It was an amazing time and influence growing up!
What was the first album you remember owning?
Justin Bieber - "My world"!!
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Lady Gaga - "Always Remember Us This Way"
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I like to immerse myself in the style of music I'm going to make before producing it. If I feel like producing a deep house track, I'll be ONLY listening to deep house for the first 2 weeks. It gets me in the vibe.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I love listening to Lauv these days. His music is just so good, so powerful, great lyrics and great rhythms.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
Justin Bieber!
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
The freedom to express yourself. Sometimes you might feel vulnerable sharing deep parts of you but, that's actually what people resonate the most with and is even therapeutic in a way.
And what is the most frustrating part?
Never knowing when to call a song "done!"... You always hear something that could be fixed haha! Plus now my ear always analyzes songs and sometimes takes me away from just enjoying it.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Done is better than perfect! Creative art will never be "perfect" either way, so just do the best you can and move onto the next one!
