Toro Y Moi - 'Sandhills'

8/10

Over the last decade, Toro Y Moi's Chaz Bundick has proven himself as one of the more inventive names doing the rounds. With a knack for warm and psychedelic productions that usually blend into different ideals throughout his catalogue to date, he recently made another bold step forward in his evolution of late with his stunning studio album 'Mahal' last year. But not looking to slow down just yet, he returns once again to deliver his shimmering new EP 'Sandhills', a collection that keeps things breezy throughout.

While normally one to adopt a bright and glittering production aside his material, 'Sandhills' feels like a far more humbled approach this time around. Conjuring a beautifully warm and illustrious acoustic-led direction for his newest five-track offering, he aims to focus his songwriting in a more tender light. While it may not have that conventional Toro Y Moi sound we are all used to, it still manages to project plenty of fresh innovation throughout, and marks some of his most passionate and heartfelt recordings to date.

While the Toro Y Moi project is normally one reserved for his most adventurous and experimental work, 'Sandhills' shows that he is never keen to let his audience come to expect his next move. Brimming with sweet and immersive textures throughout, he returns with a beautifully conceived array of delights here.
