Palace - 'Ultrasound'

7/10

Despite having only been around less than a decade right now, Palace have proven themselves as one of the more prolific names on the indie-rock circuit. With three highly-praised LPs to their name since 2016, the band have also been extremely busy in the times between each one of those releases, usually turning out a handful of EP and single releases as often as possible. And with their 2023 companion EPs 'Part I - When Everything Was Lost' and 'Part II - Nightmares & Ice Cream' giving us an insight into their next phase, they return with their fourth studio album 'Ultrasound', a record brimming with innovative spirit once again.

What most sets this new collection apart from their older material is its more intimate and tender nature. While they usually look to pursue a heady mix of bold anthems and more subdued outings, 'Ultrasound' seems more focused on the latter, giving them the opportunity to explore a more spellbinding aesthetic. While definitely a move away from their familiar work, this new offering still packs itself with plenty of mesmerising moments, designed to pull you in and never let you go.

It certainly comes after a busy period within their tenure, but 'Ultrasound' still manages to stand out within their dynamic direction of late. Oozing with warmth and heartfelt emotion throughout, they continue to shine as one of the more enigmatic names doing the rounds today.
