Getting To Know... Dead Star Talk

After the rousing response to their much-loved debut LP 'Too Many Too Much' in 2022, Danish outfit Dead Star Talk are back on the grind once again to deliver their euphoric new studio album 'Solid State Chemicals'.

Featuring the previously shared gems 'The Hurricane', 'Good People?', 'Our Beat Is On Repeat', and the record's vibrant title-track, this new ten-track collection makes for an incredibly anthemic listen. Bringing back more of that bold and driven indie-rock aesthetic they have been cultivating over the years, 'Solid State Chemicals' sees them continue their ascent as one of the more exciting names on the rise right now.

So with their new LP available to stream now, we sat down with the band's frontman Christian Buhl to find out more about his origins and what has been inspiring him most lately.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The guitar. Especially the western guitar.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

As a kid I loved all the melodic greats like The Beatles and Queen. These are the first bands I remember being into.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I believe it was the blue and red greatest hit albums from Queen (I had both of them on tape).

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Whatever by Oasis.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

No, the songs always come at their own pace. I’ve actually never sat down with the intention to write a song.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

The new album from Fontaines D.C. is excellent.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

The Beatles

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Creating and travelling. Recording music is always a magical experience, but so are all the experiences one gets when being on tour abroad.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The amount of time and money that goes into it is often difficult to justify when looking at the returns (income from streaming, touring, etc.. is soooo low for indie artists)

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Don’t do it for the money. Unless you really love it, don’t do it.
