Getting To Know... Marr Not Meeger

After breaking through with her brilliant initial offering 'Pizza For Breakfast' earlier this year, Irish singer-songwriter and producer Rowan Meagher aka Marr Not Meeger has now returned to share her vibrant new single 'Yellow Car'.

Lifted from her eagerly-awaited debut EP 'The Boy In The Tree', which is available to stream now, 'Yellow Car' makes for an incredibly rich and riveting return for her. With its broad and emotive textures, sweeping atmosphere, and her own passionate vocals at the helm, she is certainly one to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.

So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with her to find out more about her origins and what has been inspiring her most over the years.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Definitely the guitar, since I can remember I’ve always wanted to play the guitar.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I have gone through all the phases of a young music fan, from classic rock to Justin Bieber and Katy Perry, to the infamous emo phase.

What was the first album you remember owning?

My friend bought me a Bruno Mars cd for my 11th birthday, but before that I would stare in awe at my dads massive collection.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Any song off folklore or stranger in the alps.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I constantly have ideas for new songs, but I usually write them down and come back to them when I have a day off, and for that I need a solid six hours of non-stop writing, and a nice space (I need to clean my room before writing).

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Bill Evans and Bon Iver at the moment, perfect music for fall.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would LOVE to open for Declan McKenna or Billie Eilish, but only if she invites me back to play bass on bad guy.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

Getting to play shows and just jam with other musicians. Finishing a song I’ve been working on for a while is also super rewarding.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Having to overcome self doubt, and also just sticking to your work when things don't go your way. Being a musician isn’t a stable job so the good times are great but the bad times are really difficult, and reminding yourself why you're in it and to keep going is really hard. Also bad gigs are really annoying.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

To try to be as neutral as possible when it comes to your own work, and to not let your ego and self esteem get in the way.
