Split From The Mind - 'Split From The Mind'

7/10

Over these last few months, New York-based artist and producer Split From The Mind has looked to develop a rich and immersive aesthetic in which to call his own. With a strong love and appreciation for TOOL, NIN, Audioslave, and Queens of the Stone Age, he has looked to channel the anthemic approach these names bring to their sound, and revamp it for a modern ear. And after plenty of innovation and self-discovery under his belt to date, he now looks to break onto the scene with his impactful self-titled debut EP, a collection that heralds a new era for the genre he is looking to emulate.

Right from the very start, 'Split From The Mind' looks to unleash this raw and emotive power. Its opener 'Patterns Of..' sees him channel is inner Maynard James Keenan to unleash some brilliantly progressive ideas, all matched to his impassioned vocal performance throughout. From there, his flair for bold and euphoric alt-rock never really lets up. 'Power Is..' has this almost Offspring-inspired edge to it, while the finale 'A Beat in the Dark..' adds a more subdued angle, making for this wildly diverse listening experience as often as possible.

It may be his only piece of material to date, but Split From The Mind clearly has a strong and commanding grasp over his direction already, Brimming with this inventive approach to both songwriting and production at every turn, he is definitely a name we need to hear more from in the months ahead as well.
