Summer Moon - 'With You Tonight'

7/10

While his bandmates seemed to spending more and more time involved in their own projects, The Strokes' bassist Nikolai Fraiture had been largely quiet over the last couple of years. Then all of a sudden, we were introduced to his new supergroup Summer Moon. Featuring members of Jane's Addiction, The Airborne Toxic Event, and Uh Huh Her, the band have managed to create some wonderful pop-rock anthems in the lead up to this debut album, that certainly doesn't disappoint.

While the sound of The Strokes still remain a huge influence on this new record, the band have managed to take on a more explorative and experimental route in conceiving their sound, creating an incredibly catchy and engaging release. With a fondness for simple and minimal production, Fraiture and his bass guitar take centre stage on this release, and deliver a style that could have been a missing LCD Soundsystem record.

This kind of dancefloor-friendly indie music is something we have not heard in years, and while the album doesn't have anything in terms of a stand-out single, it manages to maintain its core sound from start to finish, giving us a record that goes far beyond just another side-project.
