Barista - 'Goodbye Heaven'

7/10

Over this past decade, Istanbul's Barista has looked to establish himself as one of the more progressive names on the alt-rock scene. Blending this heady mix of rapturous aesthetics with a thunderous approach to production as often as possible, his tenure to date has been this sprawling adventure across a spectrum of styles and attitudes over the years. And after the much-loved response to his 2022 LP 'Justice Now', he is back once again to deliver his anthemic new album 'Goodbye Heaven', a record brimming with power and finesse throughout.

Much like what he has been producing these last few years, 'Goodbye Heaven' is that enigmatic blend of riotous guitar-driven energy and a more emotive take to his lyrical flow. Taking cues from the more passionate additions to the 90s scene, such as Soundgarden and Faith No More, as well as a strong country-inspired inflection throughout, his newest collection makes for a riveting listen from beginning to end. Adopting a wonderfully inventive spirit as often as possible, he returns to the fold with some of his more impactful efforts to date here.

Times have certainly been extremely prolific for him in recent times, but 'Goodbye Heaven' shows that he is still brimming with plenty of fresh and exciting ideas in which to pursue. With such a focus honed towards his euphoric songwriting once again, Barista continues his ascent as one of the more enjoyable names doing the rounds right now.
