Beta Radio - 'Waiting For The End To Come'

8/10

Throughout the last decade of their tenure, US duo Beta Radio have been keen to add a more evocative aesthetic to their traditional indie-folk sound. While keeping very much in line with what others in their field have been exploring, the band's style has always moved with a more emotionally-charged feel, allowing them to develop their own distinctive niche within the genre. And after what has been an extremely prolific run of releases in recent months, they are finally ready to deliver their eagerly-awaited fifth studio album 'Waiting For The End To Come', a record that offers up some truly memorable moments.

Between this and their previous record 'Year Of Love' in 2021, it feels as though Beta Radio have taken a more adventurous pursuit when its comes to their overall sound. While still looking to capture those sweeping harmonics they are synonymous for, much of the production for 'Waiting For The End To Come' feels far more textured and illuminating, resulting in this wildly immersive direction. Highlighted by its opening track 'The Grief Of', their newest endeavour is a far more inventive and ambitious listen as they look to add a more passionate layer to their already alluring catalogue to date.

While the pair have always been seen as one of the more progressive outfits doing the rounds, 'Waiting For The End To Come' proves they are still brimming with plenty of fresh and exciting ideas in which to pursue. Oozing with this warmth and passion throughout, Beta Radio remain stalwarts of truly heartwarming songwriting here.
