Field Music - 'Commontime'

8/10

Fresh off the back of releasing their soundtrack record 'Music For Drifters' last year, Field Music have returned to deliver their fifth studio album 'Commontime'. While it has been almost four years to the day since their last official album, the brothers Brewis have managed to keep themselves busy within their own respective solo full-length since then. And it looks like that break apart did them some real good as 'Commontime' seems like a fresh start from the pair.

Opening with the incredibly catchy 'The Noisy Days Are Over', this new release seems to show the duo really enjoying their work. Each track has this laid-back approach running through it, giving the record an overall inviting feel. With subtle nods to disco and funk laden throughout, 'Commontime' is that rare sound of being both simple yet intriguing in design, allowing it to really get under your skin.

It is unusual to come across an album with such an easy listening atmosphere but Field Music seem to have cracked it with their latest material. Their eclectic production has this feel of David Byrne about it, which makes for an incredibly enjoyable release.
