Synthonic - 'Lampin''

7/10

Over these last few years, London-based artist and producer Kieron Garrett has seen his Synthonic project go from strength to strength. With a myriad of rich and immersive soul-inspired releases under his belt, all looking to add something fresh and interesting to the modern scene, he has been quick to cement himself as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds in recent years. And with plenty of praise and acclaim under his belt recently, he now returns with his eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'Lampin'', a record that continues that breezy nature he is known for.

Much like his work to date, 'Lampin'' looks to skirt the edges of both soul and funk-inspired aesthetics. Inviting a varied array of guest musicians along for the ride, his newest collection finds him in a wonderfully bright and uplifting guise as he plows through this release with an almost careless abandon to predictability and expectation. While mostly an instrumental release, Garrett isn't one to rest on the laurels of his grooves here, instead creating this wonderfully fluid listen that keeps us on our toes and surprising us as often as possible.

He may have already made a significant mark these last few years, but 'Lampin'' shows there is still plenty of flair and ambition coursing through him right now. Brimming with this warm and wondrous atmosphere from start to finish, Synthonic continues to bring something fresh and distinctive to the modern funk sound.
