What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

The first instrument that I fell in love with is the guitar. The guitar was just a cool instrument. When I was younger, all I wanted was to own a guitar. It was not until the end of junior high, my parents obliged and got me a guitar. It was a white acoustic guitar from X Tag. Then, I started studying classical guitar for a while and I got a Yamaha. And later, I absolutely fell in love with Stratocasters thanks to Eric Clapton and Pink Floyd! I finally got one at 21, gifted by my dad.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

I’m 27 now and All I listened to when I was younger was The Beatles. Something about the fab four and their songs just spoke to me. The songwriting partnership between Lennon and McCartney is still unbeatable to this date for me. They wrote about life, war, relationships, and dreams. They wrote about pretty much everything and that spoke to me.

What was the first album you remember owning?

The first album that I owned myself was the Red Album (1962-1966) by the Beatles. It was a compilation album of all the classics from their most popular days.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

The one song that I wished I could have written is “Yesterday” by Paul Mcartney. This song’s beauty is just surreal and yes, this song’s mood is something that I hope I can recreate in my own way one day.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

Yes, plenty! I always start writing my music only after I have an idea of the song as a whole. It is always the tune/or a beat first. Then I fit my lyrics into it.

Another thing is that since my songs are largely based on my life, I usually try to avoid writing until I have something I know that 's going to be good and this usually happens when I travel, walk around, speak to people. I cannot write music unless I have gone through something worthy enough to write about.

And since English is not my first language, I record in gibberish on my phone first when I have a tune in my mind.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Currently, I am really listening to M83, MGMT, Grizzly Bear and Bombay Bicycle Club. I am really digging the alternate sounds of these bands. M83 and MGMT especially are in my opinion, one of the most important sonic artists of this generation. They just create sound atmospheres that bring their songs into a whole nother world.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

Definitely, Taylor Swift. She’s just awesome. Her fans are really loyal to her and I would definitely like to open for such an amazing artist like her one day. I heard she helped a lot of artists to open for her like Justin Bieber, who got his career break by going on tours with Taylor.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

I am able to share my story through my songs. A lot of people are going through similar stories and situations. When you are able to connect to your audience even in small steps, that gives me a sense of satisfaction and this is the ultimate reward. Yes, Humans are built for growing and supporting each other!

And what is the most frustrating part?

Musicians have to be “content creators” now. Even if my music is great, I can’t connect with my audience until It gets popular through a viral social media video. Before, it was not like that. If it was like that, we wouldn’t have a number of artists that we love today.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

“Change is the only constant thing in this world”. This signifies the notion that I have to continuously evolve as a musician or my art will not sustain.
