Giorgio Moroder - 'Déjà Vu'

3/10

Arriving almost thirty years to the day since he last released a studio album, legendary producer and disco pioneer Giorgio Moroder returns to world music stage with his latest album 'Déjà Vu'. Featuring a huge list of collaborators including Kylie Minogue, Charli XCX, Kelis, Sia, Britney Spears and many more, 'Déjà Vu' aims to reignite his once glittering career by showing that he still has a place in today's electronic music scene.

Unfortunately for him, it seems more than clear that his time has passed. While he obviously felt invigorated after working on Daft Punk's 'Random Access Memories' in 2013, the difference between his work and the robots' is that his seems to be draped in a thick layer of camp appeal that verges on the edge of cheesy. While obviously music dubbed "so bad it's good" is a guilty pleasure for some, in the case of 'Déjà Vu', it doesn't know what it wants to be and leaves an extremely mediocre taste in the mouth.

Obviously his return should have been better than this. A lot better in fact. When you think back to what he has done and achieved in his life, it would be a shame to let something like 'Déjà Vu' be the last thing we remember him for.
