Pega Monstro - 'Alfarroba'

7/10

After the release of their self-titled debut album back in 2012, Portuguese sisters Júlia and Maria Reis, aka Pega Monstro, have enjoyed a notable boost in their international image. Thanks to an endorsement from Animal Collective's Panda Bear, the duo have seen their profile skyrocket overnight and now look to cement themselves as one of the next big names with their follow up full-length 'Alfarroba'.

While the album's intentionally rough sound does give it that DIY appeal, the main heart of this record lies within the pair's cohesion and energy. Each track is written to deliver two feelings, one of excitement and one of instant approval. Their incredibly catchy writing style runs throughout this release and makes this album not only an enjoyable listen, but one you could easily enjoy time and time again.

Cutting themselves along the same vein as rock newcomers like Royal Blood and Slaves, Pega Monstro have managed to capture the raw passion within their chosen genre and splice it with a focused vision, with incredible results.
