Samia - 'Honey'

7/10

When Samia released her groundbreaking debut LP 'The Baby' back in 2020, she was introduced as a young and tender name who had perfectly and eloquently brought her own coming-of-age story to her sound. Keeping her narrative as relevant as possible, many of her fans felt a kinship with the young artist as she quickly earned a reputation for heartfelt and emotionally-charged offerings. Now after a couple of years to grow into herself, she returns with her eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'Honey', a record that builds upon her formative guise.

Establishing more of that rich story-telling approach to her direction once again, 'Honey' sees her in a more reflective light that highlights more of her beautiful lyrics throughout. With a more matured angle in which to pursue this time around, much of this new collection is a far more stripped-back affair that allows her to be her more honest self, and create this wonderfully alluring atmosphere, brimming with sweet and passionate tones.

She may have only scratched the surface of her aesthetic so far, but 'Honey' certainly feels like a far more honest and confident artist at the helm. Samia already built a cult standing with her initial full-length, but this new effort is the result of a far more refined and experienced persona, something we can see her growing comfortably into as the years go by.
