Sweet Billy Pilgrim - 'Motorcade Amnesiacs’

7/10

Having received huge critical acclaim for their last studio release ‘Crown and Treaty’ back in 2012, alt-rock outfit Sweet Billy Pilgrim now return with their fourth studio album 'Motorcade Amnesiacs’ and their first through new label Kscope. Taking on a more riff-heavy sound for this new release, the Aylesbury-based four-piece have aimed to make this record their loudest to date and the result is quite the ride.

Described as a combination of Queens Of The Stone Age and Prefab Sprout, 'Motorcade Amnesiacs’ certainly has that dark presence that both of those bands are known for. But with Sweet Billy Pilgrim's own preferences in a country music influence, the album has this homogenous feeling where are the various inspirations have managed to come together in one great harmonious feeling that acts as a symbol of the band's own evolution.

It is certainly a captivating listen and one that shows a great level of progression within their own chosen sound. And while they haven't stumbled on anything original, the new direction does suit the band's passion and drive to create new and interesting music.
