TULLE - 'Onions'

8/10

Over these last few years, Oslo-based artist TULLE has established her place as one of the more innovative names in the alt-pop sphere. Blending a broad and atmospheric intention with a commercial edge across everything she does, her output to date has been this rich and sprawling affair that always looks for a unique angle in which to present itself. And with the buzz continuing to build for her, she now looks to cement her enigmatic legacy to date with the release of her eagerly-awaited debut EP 'Onions', a release that continues that innovative streak once again.

Featuring the wistful acoustic-led single 'Can't Be Saved', 'Onions' instantly marks itself as a brilliantly diverse but still succinct offering from the Norwegian upstart. Exploring this wondrous array of aesthetics that allow her sweeping vocals to latch onto all manner of diverse ideals, this six-track collection certainly delivers something special with every track. Creating some beautifully heartwarming moments, especially on 'Jesus Isn't Here, He's On Hiatus', TULLE finds herself in one of her most passionate and captivating guises to date here.

She may still be in the infancy of her career right now, but 'Onions' is a strong and confident message of intent for her future. Brimming with this bright and enjoyable energy from start to finish, she continues to shine as one of the more enchanting additions to the progressive Scandinavian scene right now.
