Mystery Jets - 'Curve Of The Earth'

7/10

Having been one of the big names of the indie revival of the mid-00s, Mystery Jets have remained fairly low-key so far this decade. After releasing their fourth studio album 'Radlands' back in 2012, the band have barely played a show since, to the point we thought we had lost them forever. But almost out of the blue, comes this news of album number five and despite what you might expect, they have certainly returned all guns blazing.

While the group have had their flutters with a pop dynamic in the past, 'Curve Of The Earth' shows us a far more matured band than what we once knew. With broad and huge production throughout, this new record has that same feel to what Foals conceived with 'What Went Down' last year. And just like Foals, Mystery Jets have managed to create an incredible continuation within their sound to produce something quite remarkable.

It is definitely a step in the right direction for a band we thought we would never return. And while it does lose some of its pace near the end, 'Curve Of The Earth' is a brilliant comeback for this lot and hopefully will take this progression even further next time.
