While some artists have been looking to cherry-pick and borrow influences from 80s and 90s acts in order to create a hybrid contemporary sound, it is refreshing to hear a band that have looked at those nostalgic inspirations and simply swallowed them whole.
Three-piece London outfit Real Lies have pretty much carbon-copied those forgotten styles and reinvented them in a way that is not only unique, but also shows a great level of understanding in what has helped build up the fabric of today's music scene.
While the trio have been releasing the odd single here and there for the last few years, it has only been the last few months that has seen the popularity of the outfit soar. Recent singles like 'Naked Ambition' and 'Seven Sisters' have resonated with a huge majority of music tastemakers and given them more exposure now than they have ever seen.
With a number of festival appearances at Latitude and Standon Calling in the summer, Real Lies are quickly becoming one of this year's must-see acts, and while a debut album is yet to be seen, it will not be long before we get to hear a lot more of these boys.
