Having already made her mark as one of the more inventive names on the rise right now, London-based artist Laurel Smith is back to her best once again with her wondrous new single 'snow queen', produced by Jay Flew.
Adopting more of that rich and alluring alt-pop aesthetic she has been cultivating lately, 'snow queen' makes for a dazzling return to form for her. With its broad and emotive textures perfectly elevating her distinctive vocal style throughout, she returns to us with one of her more impactful efforts to date here.
Speaking about the new offering, she said, "When Jay Flew and I made snow queen, I felt like I was stepping into a character. The whole song is painting a picture for the listener, the icy pads and mellowed out Koto plucks set the scene of a girl who lives at the top of a snowy mountain; surrounded by riches, but never content. She was granted a wish to get everything she ever wanted by a higher power, who now laughs at her naivety from above. In its metaphorical sense, snow queen shows that true happiness comes from within, which is something I think I was beginning to properly understand at the time I wrote the song."
