While many will have heard of musician Chris Baio as the bass player for Vampire Weekend, his work as a solo artist has been mostly under the radar for the last few years. Since the beginnings of Vampire Weekend, Baio has been working as a boundary-pushing producer, making leftfield beats and quirky dancefloor tunes. But it looks like the world may now be getting more familiar with his work thanks to the release of his first studio album later this year.
Working under the simple guise of Baio, the songwriter first announced his plans for a studio full-length near the beginning of the year and has now shared the album's lead single 'Sister Of Pearl', which has already managed to gather the attention of numerous music publications and national radio stations.
With its light but catchy rhythm, 'Sister Of Pearl' is showing that Baio is not just another vapid solo project but a genuine attempt at creating a new side to his musical personality that will no doubt surprise and excite his Vampire Weekend-based followers.
The album 'The Names' is due out on the 18th September and you can check out 'Sister Of Pearl' in the player below.
