Asylums - 'Wet Dream Fanzine' EP

7/10

The debut EP from Southend-On-Sea newcomers Asylums is certainly a slap in the face if you aren't expecting it. While adopting the DIY approach throughout all of their business avenues, including self-releasing this new material, the band have managed to find themselves a large amount of attention from their music so far, probably because it is just so difficult to forget.

Coming across with the same energy as early Supergrass and abstract irreverence as Pulled Apart By Horses, the 'Wet Dream Fanzine' is a short but ferocious three-track release that seems to sum up the band's sound in just a few bitesized chunks. With a clear affinity with punk rock and all of its offshoots, Asylums have managed to produce a great collection of tracks that never slow down and at times, can almost leave you short of breath when it's over.

With a running time of just over six minutes, you do feel like there should be more to it, but it's lack of music only feeds your need to hear more. They have certainly built themselves a solid foundation and it's extremely exciting to see where they go from here.
