Billie Marten - 'Drop Cherries'

7/10

Ever since she released her stunning debut LP 'Writing Of Blues And Yellows' when she was just sixteen years old, Yorkshire's Billie Marten has been one of the most passionate and alluring names on the folk-pop scene. Conjuring warm and effervescent textures far beyond her years throughout these last few years, she has quickly cemented herself as a wonderfully fresh and unique artist that is always searching for new and interesting ideas in which to explore. And after the rousing response to her third outing 'Flora Fauna' in 2021, she is back once again with her fourth studio album 'Drop Cherries', a record that broadens her sound even more.

Throughout her newest collection, Marten maintains the same humbled approach to songwriting and production she has always looked to cultivate. Adding further focus to her sublime voice this time around, 'Drop Cherries' feels like another beautifully concocted blend of dreamlike aesthetics that extend her dynamic direction at every turn. While it may not have moved forward that much since her last offering, she still finds a serene atmosphere in which to dive into, resulting in a wonderfully calming and memorable listen from start to finish.

Billie Marten may not be the most ground-breaking name doing the rounds right now, but what she does, she does incredibly well. 'Drop Cherries' adds another vibrant quiver to her already expansive musical bow, and leaves us in a rejuvenated state by the time the curtain calls on this phase in her career once again.
