Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - 'Live In Paris'

8/10

With a band like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who have released a rich and varied back catalogue over the last dozen years or so, a live performance from the trio at this stage in their career would be a real treat. Recorded at the Theatre Trianon in Paris on 24th February 2014, 'Live In Paris' aims to bring together their extensive output from their previous seven studio album and create a live show that highlights their various shades over the years.

While all live performances are usually designed to showcase the artist's most recent album, and this is no different as their 2013' album 'Specter At The Feast' does dominate much of the running order, they have still managed to sneak in a few lesser known track from their archive. Most notably 'Screaming Gun' from their debut EP that featured on some editions of their debut album 'B.R.M.C' as a bonus track. However despite it begin such an eclectic mix of their material, much of the 'Baby 81' era seems to be left out of this live performance, but given the ever growing pace of the show, the songs bounce off each other incredibly well and make this more of a show of merit and not necessarily just the singles.

Of course the album winds up with a quadruple back to back of some of their most memorable anthems, 'Spread Your Love', 'Mercy' and 'Shuffle Your Feet' before ending on the ever-explosive 'What Ever Happened To My Rock 'N' Roll (Punk Song)', that would obviously leave any crowd wanting more. It may not be the live version of a greatest hits that some may expect, but it certainly shows that after 14 years as one of the world's most engaging rock bands, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club have got their live appearances down to a tee.
