British Sea Power - 'Sea Of Brass'

7/10

As one of the most prolific and respected groups in British music, many thought they saw the beginning of the end for British Sea Power earlier this year. Marking the 12th anniversary of their debut album 'The Decline Of British Sea Power', the group ventured out on a nostalgia tour and rereleased their classic full-length with new material. A move that some considered was the band beginning to wind their career to a close, but not before they release their eighth album 'Sea Of Brass'.

Just like all the rest of their releases, 'Sea Of Brass' opens with an epic and anthemic introduction, this time in the form of 'Heavenly Waters', a big and bold benchmark to set the rest of the record up for large expectations. Thankfully it is no damp squib as 'Sea Of Brass' takes its namesake very seriously and launches an almost unending onslaught of brass band arrangements to make this release one of the band's loudest to date.

While it remains their shortest album to date with only eight tracks to speak of, the full-length still shows a group not ready to give up the work just yet. A well-rounded release with all the quality we've come to expect from any British Sea Power record.
