Chloe Rodgers - 'Back To The Quay'

8/10

In the last few years, singer and songwriter Chloe Rodgers forged herself amongst the electronic and pulsing rhythms of Swedish musical collective Twenty Committee. Her broad and sweeping vocal style made a suitable accompaniment for the group's own euphoric production style, and saw her grow in popularity as a result. But when it came for her to pursue her own solo material earlier this year, she returned a far more humbled guise, leading to the release of her debut EP 'Back To The Quay', a collection that cements her warm and vivid direction to date.

What has made Rodgers such an enjoyable listen these last few months has been her instantly recognisable voice. Distinctive yet transformative throughout, her vocal style remains the heart of this new release as she effortlessly moves from jazz-inspired croons to more atmospheric endeavours without feeling out of place. It is this chameleonic aesthetic she is able to present that gives 'Back To The Quay' such a fresh and vibrant sound, allowing her to spread her creative wings as far as they will go and create a truly wondrous offering in the process.

Things may still be very much in their infancy for Chloe Rodgers, but it is clear that she has bags of ideas and potential when it comes to format and texture. These four-track serve as an eclectic introduction to her sound, and we can't wait to hear what she comes out with next.
