The Claypool Lennon Delirium - 'Monolith Of Phobos'

7/10

You might think what does the super weird alt-rock sound of Primus have to do with the psychedelic vintage riffage of Sean Lennon. On the outside, not very much, but give them time to work together and the result is one of the most unique and out-there releases of the year so far. The Claypool Lennon Delirium pits Primus frontman Les Claypool against the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in one of the most intriguing records we've ever come across.

Fans of either of these men will know that ordinary does not come as standard as each of them are well known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary music, and their album 'Monolith Of Phobos' is no different. Mixing a vast array of various instruments to create their hyper spun-out concoction, the result is far more on the end of listenable than you might expect. The pair seem to have reined in much of their craziness for this release, and delivered something that is not only accessible but wildly enjoyable at the same time.

This is far better than it sounds on paper. The pair seem to be on the same page throughout this album and makes for a very well-honed collaboration. Certainly something for the musically explorative.
