Coach Party - 'KILLJOY'

7/10

Throughout the last few years, Isle of Wight's Coach Party have been seen as one of the more exciting names on the rise. Churning out a wealth of vibrant singles and EPs as far back as 2019, they have been busy building and cultivating a sound that perfectly suits their raucous attitude to date. And after a flurry of highly-praised outings in recent months, they now deliver their long-awaited debut album 'KILLJOY', a record brimming with fun and explosive ideas.

Despite track titles like 'What's The Point In Life', 'Parasite', and 'All I Wanna Do Is Hate', the general tone of 'KILLJOY' is far more rich and jubilant than we would have originally expected. Regularly swapping back and forth between fast and ferocious anthems, and more euphoric textures throughout this ten-track collection, Coach Party look to create a far more varied and diverse approach to their sound here. Conjuring some wonderfully infectious tones from start to finish, they are looking to make some serious waves on their initial full-length.

It may not have the same force and power many of their previously shared singles would have suggested, but 'KILLJOY' still makes for a wonderfully warm and enjoyable listen. Reflecting the same adventurous spirit they have already shown across these last four years, they feel refreshed and revived here, ready to bring on whatever should come next.
