Faux Real - 'Faux Ever'

8/10

Ever since they first emerged, US duo Faux Real have always looked to adopt this multifaceted approach to their direction. With one foot firmly rooted in classic 80s-inspired aesthetics and the other looking towards a more futuristic endeavour, their tenure to date has been this wildly explorative affair thanks to a run of highly-praised releases over the years. And after plenty of buzz and hype behind them, they now release their long-awaited debut album 'Faux Ever', a record that hones those progressive ideals even further.

Much like what their output has showcased in recent years, 'Faux Ever' looks to double down on these innovative pursuits from beginning to end. Regularly switching up the genres, sometimes even mid-song, their first full-length delivers this brilliantly enjoyable sound that emphasises their unpredictable nature at every turn. Venturing more towards a future-pop-inspired identity than some of their previous work would suggest, Faux Real are looking to highlight the brighter and more adventurous moments within their catalogue to date here.

It certainly makes for a wonderfully diverse listen, but 'Faux Ever' still manages to capture a cohesive and succinct atmosphere as it plays. Harnessing an aesthetic that is so uniquely theirs, Faux Real are looking to make a dazzling and lasting impression with this one.
