Fawna - 'Vol. 2'

8/10

Over these last few years, Canadian artist Fawna has been quick to establish herself as one of the more innovative names doing the rounds. Originally breaking through with her brilliant debut EP 'Clear' back in 2019, the years since have been this heady exploration of her distinctive direction, building upon her dynamic foundations in pursuit of something purer and more inline with her own progressive ambitions. And with the buzz surrounding her continuing to build, she cements this new era within her sound with her eagerly-awaited sophomore EP 'Vol. 2', a collection that refines those adventurous textures once again.

Teaming up with guest artists Ero Sin and Blanche for this new outing, 'Vol. 2' instantly sets itself up as one of her more diverse and expansive releases yet. Taking the bold and enigmatic pop aesthetics of her infancy and blending it with this wildly immersive approach to production throughout, this six-track offering finds her in one of her most explorative guises to date. Whether it's the pulsing atmosphere of 'Energy' or the heartfelt tones of 'Hawk', Fawna always seeks to bring her best to every one of these captivating cuts.

It has certainly been a busy and impactful time for her lately, but 'Vol. 2' shows she is still very much on top of her creative game right now. Oozing with this undeniable flair for broad and wondrous songwriting at every turn, she continues her ascent as one of the more mesmerising names on the rise right now.
