Foxes - 'All I Need'

5/10

After first emerging in the mainstream with her debut album 'Glorious' back in 2014, Foxes seemed to be one of those acts that just didn't quite know what she was. While being mostly glossy and bubblegum pop on the outside, there was a streak of rebellion about her that made her a commercial act that was cool to like. And after a short flurry as a supporting artist on a number of tracks, the Southampton-born frontwoman is back with her latest full-length 'All I Need'.

While the content of this new release is a lot more on the heartbreak side, her sound hasn't seemed to change one bit. Still working the high production value with plenty of clustered pop cliches, 'All I Need' is no more a progression of her sound than a continuation of her debut. The lyrics may speak of broken romances but the tunes themselves have this confusing uplifting quality that makes it hard to distinguish any genuine emotion from any of her songs.

It certainly ticks all the boxes of what her fans would be expecting but it just seems to have lost that core intention that made her such a star in the first place. It has that sound of committee-written music about it and feels as though Foxes has become another pale vocalist in the ever-evolving pop scene.
