Franc Moody - 'Into The Ether'

8/10

Since the release of their breakthrough debut LP 'Dream In Colour' in 2020, London's Franc Moody have found themselves riding a wave of cult appeal that perfectly suits their smooth and effervescent position. With their notoriety slowing reaching its zenith within the last few months, they have managed to maintain the excitement around their initial release with a fresh and alluring array of gems in recent times. But now they are ready to bring all that acclaim to a head as they drop their sophomore studio album 'Into The Ether', a record that builds upon their sound to date.

Picking a September release date for this new collection feels like a smart move as 'Into The Ether' definitely has this latter days of summer feel to it. With notably fun and upbeat ditties knocking around the tracklist, the general tone behind their newest collection is one of low key vibrancy and buoyancy. Continuing much of the broad and funk-inspired direction we have heard from them until now, there is this wonderfully engaging groove running the length of their newest full-length, something that remains as warm and infectious from start to finish.

It may not have anything that really stands out within its repertoire, but 'Into The Ether' is a beautifully calming and inviting listen that is simply a joy to listen to. There is hardly a moment that feels like the momentum has disappeared, and instead keeps a sweet and sweeping groove running its entire length.
