What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
The Piano
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
Well my dad used to play bands like THE RAMONES, ACDC and ELVIS COSTELLO, which later turned into Blues and Country music around the house. I remember how we used to listen to the top 40 every Sunday on our SHARP stack stereo system which exposed me to plenty of pop music in the late 70’s and 80’s which I loved like Blonde, The Police, Stevie Wonder, Adam Ant, Elvis Costello, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Elton John, Bee Gees, and The Vapors so always seem to have a wide eclectic taste.
What was the first album you remember owning?
Well after discovering and falling In love with HIP HOP in the early 80’s I remember Collecting most of the Electro Street Sounds Albums From Crucial onwards with my Paper Round and Saturday T boy Money, which were compilations at the time.. I also remember buying, Public Enemy “it takes a nation…” Eric B and Rakim “Paid In Full” LL cool J “Radio” Trouble Funk “say what” which was a live album and one of my first concerts at Hammersmith Apollo The first 12”’s I bought were Paul Hardcastle 19, Joyce Simms Come into my life, Herbie Hancock “Rockit”, “Planet rock” Africa Bambaataa, “The Show” Doug E Fresh with La di Da Di on The B side, “Just Buggin” Whistle, Mantronix “Ladies” “Rappers Delight” Sugar hill gang, Beatie Boys “ license to ill” Run DMC… wow some fond memories… These are great questions by the way, really got me thinking back to where it all began… I apologise for my rambling responses, getting a bit carried away, obviously just cut and take what you want. There's just so many important memories and artists that helped pave the way…
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
Wow, just one? There are so many great songs… If We are Talking Hip Hop it has to be Grandmaster Flash and the furious Five “ The Message”.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
I try to never force Anything to happen and let what ever comes out come out until something sticks, I found that keeping as creatively free as possible at all times with zero thought of the outcome and expectations or to please others takes me to far more interesting places and keeps me inspired to always stay true to my taste and what I think, feel and see. With that said, It has definitely been a journey getting to a place where I now trust my ear and taste 100%.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
I actually try to not listening to anything when I’m in Project Mode to keep my ears tuned into what I’m doing (Currently Working on 3 Album Projects).
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
It's Got To Be The G.O.A.T Eminem, It's funny cause an old Vinyl digging friend of mine, Mark B actually did. R.I.P Mark B….
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
Putting it out and sharing it.
And what is the most frustrating part?
As an independent it has to be getting it out there and heard by the right audience and giving It the light I feel it deserves… So thank you to you guys for helping to ease my frustrations!
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
Never listen to subjective opinions cause nobody can ever do you and always stay creatively honest and authentic at all times.
