What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

Piano. I started playing when I was 8.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

When I was really young, it was a lot of whatever CD’s my older brother was buying at the time. A lot of late 90’s hits like Sugar Ray’s Fly and Smash Mouth’s Walking On The Sun. Then once Napster came around we started downloading music for free and just started listening to any possible genre we wanted. Around when I was 11 or 12 I started really getting into all the 60’s classic rock like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc. I also had every Green Day album up to American Idiot.

What was the first album you remember owning?

I think I got the Rugrats Movie Soundtrack when I was like 5.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

Wave Of Mutilation by Pixies.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I usually just start with the chords and keep playing them till they’re cemented into my brain, then start writing a melody with some nonsense words until I come up with some kind of lyrical theme.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

Recently, it’s been all over the place. For specifically the last week, it’s been Massive Attack’s Mezzanine, any Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Charli XCX’s Brat. I always heard about Charli but hadn’t really checked out her music. She’s a genius for sure.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

My Bloody Valentine.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

The feeling you get when you finish writing a new song that you’re happy with. There’s really nothing like it.

And what is the most frustrating part?

The feeling you get when you’ve listened to a song you’ve recorded so many times that you start thinking it sounds like crap and start having an existential crisis.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

“Relax.” - My old drum teacher Pat"
