Gogol Bordello - 'Seekers And Finders'

6/10

After going through a bit of a line-up change since their 2013 album 'Pura Vida Conspiracy', everyone's favourite gypsy-punk outfit Gogol Bordello have now returned with album number seven 'Seekers And Finders'. And while the sheer frantic energy of their breakthrough full-length 'Gypsy Punks: Underdog World Strike' seems very much absent from this new release, it is clear that the band are looking to define themselves as more than just a party band.

From the start, 'Seekers And Finders' aims to bring out the collective influences and heritages of their many international band members. With nods to Mexico's mariachi sound and of course their own Eastern European roots, the album acts as a melting pot of worldwide inspirations. Tracks like 'Break Into Your Higher Self' and 'Saboteur Blues' bring out much of the old Bordello we know and love, while the album's title-track sees them in a more forward-thinking light, choosing a classic folk-based direction.

It may not be one for those that remember them in their heyday but certainly shows that they are far from out of ideas. 'Seekers And Finders' seems to mark the beginning of a new and more mature Gogol Bordello, one that could dominate the world scene all over again.
