Holly Humberstone - 'The Walls Are Way Too Thin'

8/10

Since the release of her breakthrough debut EP 'Falling Asleep At The Wheel' last year, emerging singer and songwriter Holly Humberstone has quickly grown into one of the most impressive new artists we have heard in a very long time. With a debut US and UK headline tour and Ivor Novello nod under her belt since then, she has established a strong and devout fanbase in the last year, building her confidence and ability as an artist at every turn. Now she returns with her eagerly-awaited sophomore collection 'The Walls Are Way Too Thin', a release that sees her build upon her already exciting reputation.

Inspired by her time spent between Liverpool and London, and the inability to find a true home for herself, 'The Walls Are Way Too Thin' perfectly illustrates to uncertainty and insecurity that has plagued young people over the last few years. Seeing herself as a lost individual desperately hunting for a piece of calm within her world, she elegantly transcribes these feelings to her powerful lyrics, giving the EP an extremely engaging feel. Mixing between more humbled and progressive aesthetics from start to finish, the new release is a far more identifiable slice of pop than most could connect to, giving her a more grounded direction throughout.

There was never any doubt that Holly Humberstone would become a success after her debut EP, and 'The Walls Are Way Too Thin' cements this ideal through some wonderfully compelling songwriting. Her distinctive lilt and shimmering approach remain a staple of her sound, and offer another fresh batch of incredible offerings from start to finish.
