Ladyhawke - 'Wild Things'

7/10

For a while, we thought that Ladyhawke had been condemned to the past, with her track 'Paris Is Burning' forever playing through chain restaurants and local radio station forever onwards. But it looks like we were wrong as the electro-popster returns with her third studio effort 'Wild Things' and she seems to be a lot perkier than we remember.

This new upbeat sound is validated by the frontwoman herself, who has found a wife since the last album and thus given her a more positive outlook on life. 'Wild Things' has this sometimes sickly gloss to its production but nothing that is going to upset her fanbase too much. Instead the album maintains a lot of her 80s influence, mixed in with a more contemporary backdrop, potentially making it her most forward-thinking and diverse record to date.

It is certainly a joy to have her back again, even if it does only feel like a fleeting visit. Her nostalgic presence in everything she does keeps her a permanent memory in the musical zeitgeist, and could leave us once again just as quickly as she returned. Hopefully that isn't the case here.
