Throughout this past year, John Beckmann's Mortal Prophets projects has been one of the more creative and expansive endeavours we have heard. Regularly branching out into a varied and dynamic array of influences that regularly see him hark back to the heyday of numerous genres and aesthetics, his tenure to date has been this incredibly riveting one that always manages to deliver something new and interesting. But for his latest venture, he is reviving a lost sound with 'The Laurel Canyon Lost Sessions 1966-69', a collection that rekindles the psychedelic era at its best.

Inspired by the sound and style of the late 60s, 'The Laurel Canyon Lost Sessions 1966-69' is a revamped and remastered collection of those original sounds that made that decade such a spellbinding time. Using as little modern technology as possible to pay homage to the production style of the era, this new release truly brings back the warm and emotive passion of those explorative times. Feeling both retrospective and contemporary in equal measure, Mortal Prophets sees out 2024 with one of its more endearing works to date.

While exploring a nostalgic pursuit can sometimes create an old fashioned approach to sound and tone, 'The Laurel Canyon Lost Sessions 1966-69' still manages to stand up well amongst the more refined psych-rock sounds of today. Bringing back a brilliantly absorbing atmosphere from start to finish, this new outing certainly makes for one hell of a trip.
