Memorial - 'Redsetter'

7/10

When they first broke through with their illustrious self-titled debut LP in 2022, Memorial were quickly praised as one of the more heartfelt names on the rise that year. With their quaint and traditional approach to folk songwriting, combined with a more euphoric production, gave them an instantly recognisable sound that found huge acclaim across a number of high-profile tastemakers. And with a flurry of new material arriving in recent months, they deliver their sophomore studio album 'Redsetter', a record that looks to continue those effervescent ideals.

Continuing almost straight on from their initial full-length, 'Redsetter' finds the pair in renewed spirits throughout. Doubling down on that warming aesthetic that they became synonymous with during their infancy, this new collection looks to add a more uplifting side to their sound, giving their newest outing a more textured direction. Still very much cut from the same cloth as their earlier work, Memorial rediscover that magic they first arrived with and push it as far as it will go here.

Their aesthetic has always been an incredibly absorbing listening experience, but 'Redsetter' feels like they are still seeking broader and more innovative ways in which to record themselves. With a bigger sound and grander instrumentation throughout, Memorial return with some true spellbinding delights here.
