Nathan Connolly - 'The Strange Order Of Things'

7/10

Over the last two decades, guitarist Nathan Connolly has been cemented by his success within the internationally renowned Snow Patrol. Joining the band back in 2002 just as they released their breakthrough smash hit LP 'Final Straw', he has been occasionally dabbling in other projects since then, but never making that full leap into a solo guise at any point. But after a few years to establish his new sound, he now delivers his eagerly-awaited debut LP 'The Strange Order Of Things', a record that looks to herald the next phase within his musical evolution to date.

While spending the last twenty years in one of the world's biggest bands has clearly had an impact over his new pursuit, 'The Strange Order Of Things' still makes strides in keeping itself distinct from any of his more familiar material. Recruiting the likes of Ailbhe Reddy and Biffy Clyro's Simon Neil along for the ride certainly gives the release a more explorative and adventurous ideal, yet much of this new collection sees Connolly take full charge over his latest project and deliver something brimming with warmth and intrigue throughout.

While there may not be much in the way of standout singles amongst its tracklist, 'The Strange Order Of Things' still makes for a wonderfully cohesive and succinct listen throughout. Humbled and passionate as often as possible, he has clearly had these songs rattling around in his mind for some time now, finally unveiling his own personal intentions for us all to experience.
