Tegan And Sara - 'Crybaby'

6/10

Throughout the last two decades of their career, Canadian twins Tegan And Sara have managed to create a sound that always looks to flirt with the commercial world just enough to be considered mainstream pop. Whereas their true aesthetic lies somewhere off the conventional route as they always look to find a sound that has both widespread appeal and a more adventurous direction. And after a flurry of upbeat and impactful releases these last few years, they are back once again with their tenth studio album 'Crybaby', a record that tries to keep their current form afloat.

Being able to continue within their formative guise all this time has been no easy feat, especially as they started off as teenagers and have now entered their forties. But while their age has caused little disruption to their sound in recent years, 'Crybaby' feels just as fresh and energetic as they have always looked to produce. While its overall tone and atmosphere does have trouble cementing itself from time to time, their newest full-length still makes for a fun and enjoyable listen as the two aim to churn out another heady dose of bold and exciting offerings throughout.

Tegan And Sara are almost like a time capsule of an outfit. While others look to mature their sound over the years as their audience grows with them, these two have managed to remain just as relevant to the young as they always have, giving them an evergreen style that is hard not to get swept away with.
