Thee Oh Sees - 'An Odd Entrances'

5/10

California psych-rockers Thee Oh Sees have always been known for their prolific nature, but with such a quick turnaround for this latest release, it seems like the group probably never sleep. After releasing their acclaimed eleventh studio album 'A Weird Exists' only three months ago, the band are back with 'An Odd Entrances', something they admit is more of a companion piece to their previous release than a follow-up.

Yet despite its quick playing time of just 29 minutes (featuring only six tracks), this new record plays as an extension of other ideas from their previous work. Three of the six songs on the album are instrumental, giving this very night-and-day feel to its sound. While the first half is a beautifully constructed mini-EP, the latter half feels more like an unfinished collection of ideas that seem to serve only the purpose of padding out the record.

Even only six tracks in length, there is still too much filler on this release. And while it does explore some interesting directions on its short journey, fans of the band may have expected more from them with this.
