Tom Misch returns with a heartfelt shift in tone on his new single 'Old Man'. Marking a new chapter in his songwriting, the track offers a vulnerable meditation on the passage of time, aging, and the ever-evolving bonds between generations.
Co-written with Matt Maltese in Misch’s parents’ garden shed and later recorded in Nashville with producer Ian Fitchuck, 'Old Man' trades in the artist’s signature groove-led production for something more delicate and timeless. Led by gentle guitar, piano, and Misch’s unembellished vocals, the song allows space for reflection and emotional resonance.
“Recently I’ve really wanted to create songs that work well stripped back in a classic sense,” Misch shares. “Old Man is a good example of that and one of my favourite songs I’ve ever made. It touches on a lot of things I’ve been going through recently, yet I feel it will be just as relevant playing it in 40 years from now.”
The accompanying video, directed by Saddiq Abubakar, is as intimate as the track itself — capturing fleeting snapshots of father-son moments before closing with a deeply moving scene: Tom performing the song to his father, Peter Misch, alone in a darkened room.
