Uncanny Valet - 'Almost Island'

7/10

Ever since breaking through with his much-loved debut LP 'Silo' last year, New York-based artist and producer Uncanny Valet has been on an exceptional rise. Broadening his rich and immersive approach to soundscapes with a breadth of dazzling delights in the months since has given him this otherworldly appeal, one that has already caught the eyes of countless tastemakers along the way. And with his presence growing with every new release, he now cements this new era within his sound with his eagerly-awaited sophomore album 'Almost Island', a collection that builds upon that dynamic reputation he has been cultivating.

Much like the riveting exploration of sound 'Silo' introduced us to, 'Almost Island' continues to make advances in the intricate and adventurous direction he has been pursuing. Creating this wonderfully bold and captivating identity across twelve new offerings, all of which looking to add something new and interesting to his aesthetic, this new outing makes for a brilliantly inventive and absorbing listen. Whether he is exploring glitchy textures or something more groove-laden, Uncanny Valet always looks to intrigue and delight at every turn here.

It has certainly been a busy and productive time this past year, but 'Almost Island' shows his vision is far from running low on steam. Brimming with this fascinating and inventive edge as often as possible, he is certainly a name we need to be keeping a close eye on for the months ahead as well.
