Weezer - 'Everything Will Be Alright In The End'

4/10

While Weezer have been one of the longest running bands of the modern era, their legacy hasn't been the most engaging. Their back catalogue is a jumbled mixture of classic anthems and tracks we'd rather forget, but that hasn't stopped them from continuing with their efforts and have now released their ninth studio album to date. 'Everything Will Be Alright In The End' marks the end of a four-year wait for a new Weezer album, one of the longest gaps in their career, so has this extended wait been worth it?

While it still has that classic Weezer sound, there is little to remember from this release. The record is simply a Weezer-by-numbers album that seems to still be operating on the same formula the band had on their 1994 self-titled debut, but lacking in all the magic and ingenuity that made that album an instant classic. It still has its enjoyable moments, but for the most part, it is a very mediocre effort from these now veteran rockers.

Although they haven't fizzled out completely yet, this album should be a clear sign that the band have simply been produced the same music for 20 years, something that hasn't aged that well and doesn't have that same bite as before.
