Camryn Quinlan previews debut EP with heartfelt single 'ex box'

New York-based newcomer Camryn Quinlan has unveiled her vibrant and emotive single 'ex box', the latest taste of her upcoming debut EP If We're Being Honest (arriving March 14th).

The track showcases Quinlan's most commercial-minded songwriting to date, embracing a polished electronic-pop sound while maintaining the soulful, heartfelt lyricism that defines her as an artist. Produced by longtime collaborator Baldvin Hlynsson, 'ex box' masterfully blends electronic elements with organic instrumentation to create something both understated and strikingly cinematic.

With its irresistible chorus and relatable narrative of teenage heartache, Quinlan's introspective songwriting shines throughout. Speaking about the track, she explains: "The meaning behind 'ex box' is as simple as keeping things that are left behind from exes. The box of cards, gifts, jewelry, movie tickets, and other sentiments that came from that special person. It's almost like keeping those physical memories kept the person in your life."

The song's journey mirrors Quinlan's own artistic development. "I made the song when I was starting freshman year of high school, and I was just writing in my bed one day, thinking about the box that I had in my room. It was finally recorded three years later when I met my Icelandic producer Baldvin. He flew from Iceland to New York for us to work together and then the song was all put together. It's crazy how these things happen."

Drawing inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, and Chappell Roan, Quinlan's upcoming EP promises a collection of songs that are both lyrically profound and musically rich. With standout performances at venues like Rockwood Music Hall and the BMI Showcase, Camryn Quinlan continues to establish herself as one to watch.
